This special film celebrates the work of painter and illustrator Megan Welton, a visually impaired artist from Norfolk. Megan loves nature and creates bold, expressive paintings of owls, hares, and other local wildlife. She often focuses on landscapes and the natural world. Her art draws inspiration from animals, human relationships, and striking contrasts.
In 2022, Megan developed vision loss due to a neurological condition called Intracranial Hypertension and had a VP shunt fitted to manage fluid on her brain. Later, doctors diagnosed her with the autoimmune condition Lupus. She worked closely with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to adapt her art to her changing sight.
Today, Megan paints with high-contrast warm and cool-toned acrylics and oils on dark backgrounds. She works under a magnifier and a low-vision lamp. To create finer, softer details, she uses wild bird feathers, which help her paint what she could not achieve with a brush. These feathers also deepen her connection to the animals she portrays.
